Civil Rights
When government actors abuse their power, the consequences can be life-altering. At Snake River Criminal Defense, we represent individuals who have suffered serious harm due to unconstitutional actions by law enforcement, jail staff, or other government agencies.
Our civil rights practice is focused on a narrow but critical set of cases, including:
Police excessive use of force, including officer-involved shootings and serious injury cases
Police misconduct, including unlawful arrests, fabrication of evidence, and abuse of authority
In-custody deaths and serious injuries
Jail and detention facility abuse or neglect, including:
Failure to provide medical care
Unsafe conditions of confinement
Physical abuse by staff
Civil rights violations involving vulnerable individuals, including people with disabilities or mental health crises
To be clear, our civil rights practice does not include:
Employment discrimination cases
General lawsuits against cities or agencies
Property or zoning disputes
Minor civil claims
Our focus is on serious, high-impact civil rights cases involving abuse of power and real harm.
How We Approach These Cases
Civil rights cases are complex, fact-intensive, and often hard-fought. We approach them the same way we approach serious criminal defense and complex litigation:
Careful investigation
Deep respect for the facts
Collaboration with experienced co-counsel when appropriate
A willingness to take difficult cases to court
These cases are about accountability. We pursue justice for people whose rights have been ignored or violated by those in power. If your rights were violated by the government, we’re here to help you fight back.
⚠️ Please note: Due to high demand, we are not currently accepting new civil rights cases. If your case falls within the narrow cases listed above, we may be able to place you on our waitlist. We know these situations are serious, and we’re honored that so many people trust us, but we are at capacity at this time.
